When You Should Cancel an Order

Market Direction Changed

You originally expected a token to rise and placed a low-price limit buy order. But later analysis suggests the market may continue falling — you should cancel the buy order to avoid catching a falling knife.

Price Set Unreasonably

After placing the order, you realize the price is set too high or too low and it hasn't filled for a long time. Rather than leaving it hanging, cancel it and set a more reasonable price.

Capital Needs Changed

The funds frozen in your pending order are needed for another trade. Cancelling the order immediately releases the frozen funds back to your available balance.

Insufficient Market Liquidity

Some low-cap tokens have very low trading volume, and your order may sit unfilled for a long time. If you don't want to wait, cancel and use a market order for instant execution.

Mistaken Order

Wrong direction, quantity, or price — cancel promptly to avoid losses.

Important Notes About Cancelling

Only Unfilled Orders Can Be Cancelled

If an order has already been fully filled, it cannot be cancelled. Completed trades are irreversible.

Partially Filled Orders

If your order has been partially filled (e.g., you placed a 100 USDT buy order and 30 USDT has been filled), you can cancel the remaining unfilled portion (70 USDT). The already-filled 30 USDT is not affected.

Cancellation Is Free

Cancelling orders on Binance is completely free. You can place and cancel orders freely without worrying about charges.

Frozen Funds Are Released Immediately

After cancelling, the frozen funds (margin or USDT reserved for the buy) return to your available balance instantly.

Cancelling Different Order Types

Limit Orders

The most common pending order type. Unfilled limit orders can be cancelled at any time.

Stop-Limit Orders

Stop-loss orders that haven't been triggered yet can be found and cancelled under "Open Orders" or "Conditional Orders."

Take-Profit Limit Orders

Same as stop-loss orders — they can be cancelled before being triggered.

OCO Orders

OCO (One-Cancels-the-Other) is a combination order containing both a limit order and a stop order. Cancelling the OCO order cancels both sub-orders simultaneously.

Futures Orders

Unfilled orders in futures trading can similarly be cancelled under "Open Orders" on the futures trading page.

Good Order Management Habits

Regular Cleanup

Make it a habit to periodically review your open orders. Outdated or unnecessary orders should be cleared promptly.

Know Your Reasons

Think clearly about why you're cancelling before you do. If you find yourself frequently placing and cancelling orders, your trading strategy may need adjustment.

Use Conditional Orders Instead of Repeated Limit Orders

If you want to buy at a certain price but aren't sure when it will be reached, use conditional orders (stop-limit orders). They don't tie up your funds until triggered.

Avoid Emotional Trading

Don't let short-term price swings drive you to constantly place and cancel orders. Build a trading plan and stick to it.

FAQ

Is there a delay when cancelling orders?

Cancellation is typically instant. However, during extremely high market activity, there may be a very brief delay. If the cancellation succeeds but your available balance doesn't update immediately, wait a few seconds and refresh.

Can a cancelled order be restored?

No. Once cancelled, the order is gone. If you still want to trade at the same conditions, you'll need to place a new order.

Why can't I cancel some orders?

The order may be in the process of being filled. If the status shows "Filled," it can no longer be cancelled.

Is there a limit on how many times I can cancel?

No. You can place and cancel orders an unlimited number of times — Binance doesn't restrict the frequency. Download the Binance App to flexibly manage your trading orders.

Safety Tips

  • Make sure you no longer need the order before cancelling
  • Check your open orders during periods of intense market volatility
  • Don't leave large numbers of unfilled orders unattended for extended periods
  • Double-check new order parameters when cancelling and re-placing orders
  • Avoid frequently adjusting stop-loss and take-profit levels after setting them — don't trade on emotion
